How to know you’re doing HIIT
When you do HIIT, it’s all about intensity. It’s not just about moving quickly, but about pushing your body close to its limit during the high-intensity intervals.
Here are some signs you’re doing it right:
- Elevated heart rate: Your heart rate should be at 85-95% of your maximum heart rate during those high-intensity intervals.
- Muscle fatigue: You should feel challenged by the end of each burst of work, with your muscles really working hard to keep going. It’s particularly effective if you can reach the point where you feel you can’t do another rep (failure)… but be sure to maintain good form.
- Need for recovery: After each interval, you should feel like you need the rest to catch your breath. That’s how you know you pushed yourself hard enough!
The science behind it:
HIIT stimulates both aerobic and anaerobic systems, making it a metabolically efficient workout. This combined effect leads to greater cardiovascular and muscle strength while torching calories.
