Where do you get your dopamine?

Dopamine is your brain’s “feel-good” neurotransmitter—it’s what drives motivation, pleasure, and reward. It helps you focus, feel accomplished, and seek out things that bring joy.

But here’s the catch: not all dopamine sources are created equal.

Healthy dopamine boosts come from:
✔️ Overcoming a challenge
✔️ Exercise (hello, runner’s high!)
✔️ Deep conversations and quality time
✔️ Learning something new
✔️ Meditation and mindfulness
✔️ Setting and achieving small goals

Unhealthy dopamine traps include:
❌ Junk food and sugar binges
❌ Scrolling endlessly on screens
❌ Addictive substances
❌ Gambling or compulsive shopping

The problem?

Quick-fix dopamine (junk food, social media, etc.) can overstimulate your brain’s reward system, making healthy sources feel less rewarding over time.

The good news? You can retrain your brain!

Start small—set a daily goal, move your body, connect with people, or immerse yourself in a creative hobby. The more you fuel your brain with real and healthy rewards, the less you’ll crave the artificial highs.
