What is a lifestyle medicine doctor?

What makes a lifestyle medicine doctor different from a normal general practitioner?

Well, first of all. I am a general practitioner. That’s my undergraduate training, but I specialized in lifestyle medicine. I followed a postgraduate degree program lasting three years, and I did a full master’s thesis on a specific lifestyle intervention.

So it’s the same process as any other specialist would follow in a particular field of medicine. So a lifestyle medicine doctor is a specialist in lifestyle medicine, and what makes us different is that we look at the whole picture. We look at your nutrition. Your physical activity, your sleep quality, your stress, your work environment.

We look at your social connections. We look at any exposures to toxic substances we consider addictions. We look at all of those behavioral factors that impact on your health and wellbeing, and we consider how those factors are affecting you now, but also in the future. So we have comprehensive view on your current health.

But with the mindset of optimizing your health now so that you don’t have horrible health complications in the future, my goal is for you to have the longest, healthiest, and happiest life possible.
