Achieve Your Goals
This is tip 6 of 7 in the series on how to make your resolutions a reality in 2025!
Help others!
It’s safe to say that we all want to make our lives and the lives of those around us better and happier.
What if you could engineer your ambitions for this year in such a way that your actions have a positive impact on other people too?
I had a patient (magnificent, kind lady) who wanted to stop smoking. She was a VERY heavy smoker (3 packs a day for over 20 years). Nothing had worked for her: hypnosis, medications, self-help books, she’d tried everything.
I asked her: ‘How much do you think you spend on cigarettes every month?’ The figure she gave me was astronomical. I then said: ‘Would you be interested in donating that amount each month to the local children’s clinic? I could ask the nursing sister to contact you and she can tell you how they might use that money to benefit the kids?’
The patient agreed to meet the nurse in charge… and she agreed to donate her cigarette money to the children’s ward for one year.
She stopped smoking within 2 months and to my knowledge has remained a non-smoker. She still supports the children’s clinic.
Think about a goal you have and how you could support a local charity or even someone less fortunate in your community by attaching an action or sponsorship or charitable activity to milestones along your goal-achievement journey.
You will do yourself good while helping others at the same time.
